About Us

The “Institute for Peace, Security and Development Studies (IPSDS)” was established in the University, with a Director appointed to oversee the affairs in February 2024. On creation, the Institute inherited the programme on ‘Peace and Conflict’ and ‘Development Studies’ that started a year earlier at the Ekwueme Centre for Multi-Disciplinary Studies. Following this creation was the appointment of the Governing Board, making the Institute separate and independent of any other organ and agency of the University except in collaboration.

Since its creation, the Institute have enjoyed tremendous support of the Vice Chancellor and the University. First, a complete building was given to the Institute for repair and use. Secondly, staff were posted by the Registry to man the duties and responsibilities at the Institute, led by a Deputy Registrar. Thirdly, some office facilities were also given to the Institute for take-off. In line with her core mandates, the Institute mounted and is running the following programmes at the Postgraduate level:

  1. Master of Peace & Conflict Management (MPCM) (Executive), M.Sc., & PhD in Peace & Conflict Resolution.
  2. Master of Security Studies (MSS) (Executive), M.Sc., & PhD in Intelligence and Security Studies.
  3. PGD, Master of Development Studies (MDS), M.Sc. & PhD in Governance & Development Studies.

We also engage in short/certificate courses in wide array of professional programmes.
