World Record: Nigeria Now the World’s Deadliest Country for Christians

A report recently released reveals that Nigeria is now the World’s Deadliest Country for Christians: 3,490 Killed in One Year While Authorities Ignore Systematic Violence.

Nigeria has become the deadliest place on Earth for Christians, with 72% of global faith-related killings occurring there while authorities largely turn a blind eye.

The claims are according to the data from Open Doors’ World Watch List 2026 which shows that of the 4,849 Christians killed worldwide for their faith between October 2024 and September 2025, 3,490 deaths occurred in Nigeria, up from 3,100 the previous year.

US Congressman Rep. John James highlighted these shocking statistics, drawing intense international attention to Nigeria’s escalating religious violence.

Multiple sources, including Fox News, Vatican News, Christianity Today, and Open Doors’ own reports, confirm the figures.

The killings are primarily carried out by jihadist groups such as Fulani militants, Boko Haram, and ISWAP, who target Christian communities across the Middle Belt and northern Nigeria.

Attacks include massacres, church bombings, kidnappings, and forced displacement, often occurring during religious holidays.

Nigeria now ranks No. 7 on the World Watch List for extreme persecution, with sub-Saharan Africa accounting for 93% of global faith-related Christian deaths.

The crisis has prompted calls for urgent international intervention, with critics accusing the Nigerian government of downplaying the issue, and recently paid international lobbyist $9M to change the narrative as communities are devastated and sacked from their homes.

Would one say the Nigerian government has failed in her mandate to protect the lives and properties of her citizens as insecurity and violence spreads across the country?

Or is it that the Nigerian government is complicit in the systematic genocide of Christians in Nigeria? Just some days ago, the Nigerian government arrested students for protesting insecurity in Edo State, while the Katsina government seek court help to free over 70 terrorists rebranded as bandits.

Is this not an irony? What is wrong with Nigeria and the Nigerian government?
